  2. Why are plastic tanks superior to traditional steel tanks?

Plastic tanks are superior to steel tanks in many ways. Because of plastic's excellent corrosion resistance properties and it's light weight, it is therefore a very useful material in industrial and domestic applications.  Plastic tanks are commonly used to store and ship all types of materials such as water, oil and chemicals.  Some types of plastic tanks are made to be stored above ground, while others are designed for underground use.  Plastic tanks may also be portable or moveable while others are meant to stay rooted in place.  While these tanks are available in a variety of forms and colors, the most important factors to consider when choosing one are the dimensions and the storage capabilities is possesses.  Plastic tanks are lightweight, affordable, rust-proof, more durable and in most cases, can be produced and delivered to you faster than steel tanks.

  3. Are your products and services guaranteed?

We will always provide the quality service and products you expect. We give our customers what they want: fast delivery and quality tanks at wholesale prices. Our website is guaranteed to be secure to protect your privacy while shopping online. Please look under Terms and Conditions to read about our 5 Year Limited Warranty.

  4. What is the maximum temperature that your tanks will withstand?

Linear polyethylene (HDLPE) storage tanks have a maximum storage temperature of 120º F. Cross-Linked polyethylene (XLPE) storage tanks have a maximum storage temperature of 130º F. Note: Standard tanks are designed based upon ambient conditions or 100º F. Contact us for our recommendation as to the best material to specify for your application.

  5. How many pounds per gallon will your tanks hold?

A tank with a specific gravity of 1.5 can hold a liquid up to 12.5 pounds per gallon at 73º F. A tank with a specific gravity of 1.9 can hold up to 15.83 pounds per gallon at 73º F. Please note that an increase in liquid temperature can substantially decrease the specific gravity rating. Also, certain chemicals have environmental stress cracking agents in them, so a higher specific gravity tank may be needed to compensate even though the weight of the chemical may be lower. Please refer to the Chemical Resistance Chart or call us to determine which tank design is best for your chemical application.

  6. What chemicals can I store in the tanks?

Refer to the Chemical Resistance Chart or contact the chemical supplier to see if their product is compatible with high-density linear polyethylene (HDLPE) or cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE).

  7. Can I store petroleum products in the tanks?

We do not recommend storing certain petroleum products in our tanks because they will permeate (soften) the tank walls. Contact us in regard to specific applications.

  8. Can your tanks be pressurized?

No, our tanks cannot be pressurized. They are designed to atmospheric pressure only.

  9. Can your tanks be buried?

Some can be, but not all. Tanks that are specifically designed for above-ground use cannot be buried because the weight of the ground around the tank can cause the wall to collapse. If you have an application for a below-ground tank, we do have a few tank lines available that are specifically designed for below-ground use.

  10. What is the warranty on your tanks?

We offer our customers 1 and 3 Year Limited Manufacturer's Warranty on all of our tanks.  Look under Terms and Conditions to read the warranty in it's entirety.

  11. Will freezing temperatures hurt my poly tank?

Freezing temperatures will not have an affect on a polyethylene tank itself, however if there is liquid in the tank, make sure the freezing liquid has enough head room in the tank to expand. Manufacturers utilize a test called “Low Temperature Impact Resistance.” This is a test utilized by both the ARM (Association of Rotational Molders) and ASTM D 1998. Go-To-Tanks testing capabilities exceed the requirements of ARM and ASTM D 1998. They recommend only 20º F for the test, but our manufacturers conduct testing at -40º F. This test is critical for determining if the resin has been properly processed and will give you an idea as to the temperatures that the resins can sustain. It is important that you take precautions against impacting the tank, especially with sharp items, at any temperature.

  12. Can I store biodiesel in your tanks?

Biodiesel is a clean-burning alternative fuel produced from domestic renewable resources. Biodiesel contains no petroleum, but it can be blended at any level with petroleum diesel fuel to create a biodiesel blend. Biodiesel, or B100 (100%), refers to the pure fuel. Biodiesel blends, or BXX, refers to a fuel that is composed of a percentage of biodiesel blended into a conventional fuel (for example, B20 = 20% Biodiesel blended with 80% conventional fuel).

Our chemical compatibility testing shows that uniquely processed HDLPE and XLPE resins are compatible with B100 Biodiesel. From this testing, we recommend ONLY above-ground 1.9 specific gravity industrial (ASTM) designed tanks (600 psi hoop stress) for B100 applications.

The manufacturers warranty for biodiesel B100 applications is one (1) year against defects in material and workmanship.

  13. How many years will my tank last?

There are many variables that can have an effect on the life of a polyethylene tank, including the type of material being stored in the tank, its concentration and its temperature.

Temperature: The temperature of the application can be a factor, especially if it wasn’t taken into consideration in the design of the tank. Some applications may permeate the polyethylene at elevated temperatures.

Special Considerations: Some chemicals will have long-term effects on the polyethylene and may require special considerations. As an example, sodium hypochlorite will degrade from UV exposure and elevated temperature. As it degrades, it can build up sediment in the bottom of the tank. If this sediment is flushed from the tank periodically, it will extend the life of the tank.

About Installation and Piping: The number one reason for tank failure is improper installation. It is important to follow our “Guidelines for Use & Installation.” Having flexible connections that compensate for the expansion and contraction of the tank will extend the life of the tank.

Is the tank used indoors or outdoors? UV rays will have a detrimental effect on the life of all poly tanks. The amount of UV exposure will be based upon the time of exposure and the percentage of tank surface and tank elevation that is exposed to the sun. What part of the country are you in? Tanks used outdoors in areas subjected to more intense sunshine will be more adversely affected by the sun.

Storage vs. process: Is the tank a holding tank or a processing tank? A tank that is continuously cycled will see more stress than a tank that remains at one level or close to one level for extended periods of time. Tanks with excessive agitation may also be exposed to undue stress. Stationary tanks will also not see the same level of stress as a tank that is being transported.
